His Promised Gift

“Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of

sins.”
~ 1 Peter 4:8 (NLT)

I recall a time when I lied to a dear friend to save my pride. I felt the appearance of my
reputation was at stake. Over time, the weight of that lie crushed my freedom in our endearment with shame, and divided our friendship. One afternoon, as the Holy Spirit convicted me, my stomach cramped and my throat ached as I asked my friend’s forgiveness through torrential tears.

After what felt like hours, she patted my knee and said, “In Jesus’ name, you’ve been
cleaned and forgiven, my sister.” In that moment, as she forgave my offense and re-calibrated our friendship, I experienced God’s love as she declared my restoration through His forgiveness. I also realized that I’m not above any sin. Most importantly, God’s forgiveness covers all sin.

Christmas is more than a story of a baby and a star. It’s God’s plan of love unfolding in our lives when we bow before His Son. Jesus Christ is His promised provision of redemption from sin and the ultimate example of how we must love each other.

Father God, thank You for Your gift of love and forgiveness through the life of that Baby in the manger —Your Son, Emmanuel.
